Ancient Lore for Modern Minds

Historical and Mythology Consultant for Film and TV

MythographerX is a historical consultant and mythology advisor for film, TV, video games and long-form franchises, led by medievalist Dr. James Acken. We bring scholarly rigour into the writers' room and onto the set, so your worlds feel lived-in, your dead languages sound alive, and your monsters come from somewhere real.

Make it fantastic, but keep it real.

A Medievalist in the Writers' Room

Dr. James Acken spent a decade teaching medieval studies: bestiaries, Arthurian tradition, comparative mythology and ancient languages. Then he took the manuscripts out of the archive and into the edit suite. His specialisms are Latin, Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse myth, history and literature, from the European Iron Age to the end of the Middle Ages. Credits include The Sacrifice Game, Lucid, Look and SuperNatural. When a brief runs wider, we bring in specialist scholars matched to the project. Meet Dr. Acken.

Ancient Languages, Mythology & Period Detail

Audiences can smell lazy history. A borrowed Viking cliché or a "Dark Ages" shortcut breaks the spell faster than a boom mic in shot. We give writers, directors and showrunners the real material: the rituals, beliefs, languages and buried stories that make an invented world hold together under scrutiny. Need to hire a historian for your production? We offer script and story consulting, worldbuilding and lore, authentic dialogue in Latin, Old English, Old Norse and Old Irish, and on-set advising from prep to post. We also work with game studios. Curious? See your name in runes.
